I saw [xhave seen] him an hour ~. 1時間前に彼と会った(cf. He must have died years ago. 彼はきっと何年も前に亡くなったのでしょう(=It is certain that he died years ago. )).
She was thinner than she had been three weeks ~.
He said this morning, “I went sightseeing in Europe three years ~. ”=He said this morning that he had gone sightseeing in Europe three years ~.
    (4) xIt is ten years ~ since he wrote the novel. It has been [is] ten years since he wrote the novel. / It was ten years ~ that [when] he wrote the novel. / He wrote the novel ten years ~.
    (5) agoは単独で用いないので, 「(漠然と)以前に」の意ではbefore: I met her before.
