    Массовые митинги, манифестации, шествия и другие акции протеста, проходящие в центре г. Вашингтона. Одним из первых был марш 1 мая 1894 "армии Кокси" [ Coxey's Army], участники которого были арестованы полицией за "посягательство на право собственности", которое они якобы нарушили, поднявшись на ступени Капитолия [ Capitol]. Внушительным событием стал поход на Вашингтон безработных ветеранов первой мировой войны [ Bonus March] 1932, разогнанный войсками генерала Макартура [ MacArthur, Douglas]. Крупнейшей акцией протеста второй половины XX в. считается 250-тысячный марш борцов за гражданские права негритянского населения в августе 1963, закончившийся грандиозным митингом на Эспланаде [ Mall, The] между памятником Вашингтону [ Washington Monument] и мемориалом Линкольна [ Lincoln Memorial].
