    Деятель рабочего движения. Родился в г. Брест-Литовске, Россия. Гражданин США с 1916. Был президентом Межнационального профсоюза дамских портных [ International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union] с 1932 по 1966. Решительно не допускал в профсоюз коммунистов, а также представителей преступного мира, выступал за предоставление членам профсоюза больших льгот. Входил в руководство АФТ [ AFL] и АФТ-КПП [ AFL-CIO]. Как вице-президент АФТ представлял ее в Международной организации труда и в Экономическом и социальном совете ООН. В 1945 был одним из организаторов Международной федерации демократических профсоюзов
