    Афроамериканская общественная деятельница, педагог. Была 17-м ребенком в семье бывших рабов в Южной Каролине. В молодости преподавала в открытых миссионерами школах (1895-1903). В 1904 основала в г. Дейтона, шт. Флорида ремесленное училище для негритянских девушек [Daytona Normal and Industrial Institute for Negro Girls], которое возглавляла в 1904-42 и 1946-47, преобразовав в Колледж Бетьюн-Кукмен [Bethune-Cookman College]. В 1935 создала Национальный совет женщин-негритянок [National Council of Negro Women (NCNW)].
